frenzy

Sometimes you have it and sometimes you don't. I am referreing to the urge, momentum, inspiration, motivation and courage to create. Finally, finally, after what has seemed like many moons, I have begun to sew-and as per usual when the urge sets in the need to sew becomes insatiable. I attribute this new stage to several things that eventually built up enough energy, and willpower to leap into action. 1) hibernation, and incubation. I had a long period after the last quarter of school up until now-where I have been essentailly both resting, and incubating-mulling ideas around-but not feeling the appropriate impulse. 2) inspirational materials. I am constantly surrounded by magazines, movies, other crafters, websites, and exhibitions. I take in information all the time--but it takes a certain combination of mulled ideas and what I see as courage to finally spring into action. Specifically, I think the movie "The Science of Sleep" led to some action on my part. It is full of creative stop motion animation, and soft-sculpture objects that are so me! The movie completey validates these objects and makes them part of the focal point of the film. I collect information over time from these sources and then when the urge hits I see the input turned into concrete work and the data pours out of me in the form of a hand dyed linen, and ripstop nylon vagina (incorporated into a larger wall piece), cool fleece, and ribbed cotton sportswear, with a definite nod to the Safety line: see Rebecca Turbow. As well as other totally unique fabric formations that I aim to make part of an on-going practice of fabric-art-works for enjoyment and sale. So I am basically ecstatic!
